Practice

Practice Overview

Incarnation is not only an engagement with the physical world but with an invisible world of subtle energies as well.  These subtle energies flow from the activities of life, consciousness and spirit.  They create an energy ecology, a second ecology of the earth, that surrounds and permeates the world and is deeply interconnected with the biological ecology around us.

These two ecologies, one physical and one not, constitute the whole world of which we are a part.  The practice of incarnational spirituality addresses our relationship to both. It works for the development of wholeness within ourselves through the development of our sovereignty; it works for the development of wholeness in our relationships with each other and with our world; and it works for wholeness in our relationship to the energy ecology.

We act in this energy world through the use of an energy body that surrounds each of us.  This body responds to our thoughts, feelings, imaginations, and intentions just as our physical body does, with the major exception that in the energy world in which it functions, it is not limited by space.  Through the phenomenon of non-locality and energy resonance, a person on the other side of the world can be as close to us and as available as a person physically standing next to us.

This energy body is part of our expanded nature.  This includes the non-physical parts of us such as our spirit, our consciousness, and our subtle energies, all the parts that are not limited by the constraints of the physical body but which nevertheless draw upon our physical natures as points of anchoring, connection, and leverage.  We are each a blend of the "particle" (the body) and the "wave" (our expanded nature), the bound and the unbounded.  In the partnership and interaction of this blend lies our ability to offer an inner service.

This inner service can take different forms. In this section we offer examples of several of these forms along with exercises for you to try out in order to explore working with the subtle energies around all of us.

  • Energy Hygiene – This is the practice of working with your own personal energy field to keep it clean, clear, open, and flowing. Here you will find an explanatory essay and some basic exercises from Incarnational Spirituality to try out.
  • Subtle Activism – This is the practice of energy hygiene for the world at large.  Here you will find an explanatory essay and sample exercises.
  • Manifestation - This is the practice of working with energy hygiene and the energy ecology as a whole to shape your incarnation. Here you will find introductory essays and information about the Manifestation Card Deck, as well as exercises to do using the cards.
  • Blessing – This is the practice of drawing upon one's spirit and indwelling sacredness to energize, hold, and empower another.  Here you will find essays and exercises exploring the art and service of giving blessings.
  • Alliances – This is the practice of working collaboratively with those spiritual beings who are part of the energy ecology—the Second Ecology--of the world.

We offer classes in each of these five areas of working with subtle energies.  For further information, please see our Education section or the Calendar.

“Lorian has helped me to develop my own spiritual practice that feeds me in profound and deep ways. I feel connected to the very fabric of life in a way that I could not have been using other spiritual approaches. I have been freed to find, develop, and embrace my own idea of Sacredness. Thank you, Lorian and David, for this wonderful gift.”

In the physical world, we are separated by distance. What happens to someone on the far side of the earth may seem to have little consequence or affect upon me. We believe our thoughts and feelings are private, locked within our skulls and our skins. But in the energy world, we are all connected in profound and interdependent ways. It's as if we were all standing on a great trampoline. When one person bounces, it makes the whole trampoline move and we all bounce to some degree.  Subtle energies are not limited by distance. Thus when a calamity strikes in some part of the world, our energy bodies all feel the effect of the suffering and fear no matter where we are. We may feel uneasy or restless, anxious or fearful for no reason that we can see.
